Optipix User's Guide:  Selection

Optipix 3 includes selection tools designed to improve your 16-bit workflow. The Optipix Store/Recall Selection tools work just like the 2nd Image buffer tools that you are familiar with, except they work on the selection of an image, in a fashion very similar to that of the Quick Mask.

It is extremely cumbersome to move a selection to a different image, requiring you to save your selection as a channel. Optipix makes this procedure a simple operation that can be scripted using actions. Optipix also makes this tool available for 16-bit images in Photoshop 7 or earlier.

The Optipix Selection tools provide flexibility that itsn't available in Photoshop. You can recall a selection in any image you load, which makes working with a bracketed image sequence extremely easy. Since the tools are single plug-ins with no dialogs, they are easy to record into an action, making them ideal for automated workflow.

Optipix 3 also adds a new selection plug-in: Select JPEG boundaries. This plug-in will try to find the edges of the 8 x 8 tiles that the JPEG compression method creates and selects them. This, in conjunction with our JPEG Cleaner plug-in, gives you many different ways to repair the damage caused by compression.
