Documentation Overview

Online and offline resources for image enhancement, processing, and analysis

The Optipix Online Guide

This is the online version of the tutorial included on the Optipix CD. Expanded to include more detailed methods of using the Optipix package, this guide will show you step-by-step how to get started using Optipix.

The Image Analysis Cookbook, version 6 - Online Edition

This is the online version of the tutorial included on the Image Processing Tool Kit and Fovea Pro CDs. These pages not only give a detailed introduction to the capabilities of our software, but provide an excellent survey of the common techniques used in image processing and measurement. It is the ideal "hands-on" companion to the Image Processing Handbook, by Dr. John C. Russ.

The Image Processing Handbook, by John C. Russ. (4th Edition, CRC Press, 2002, ISBN 0-8493-1142-X).

This is the most widely used and praised text for users of image processing and analysis, with a rich set of example images comparing an extensive collection of algorithms. Requires only a minimal background in mathematics or computers.

Quantitative Image Analysis Workshop

The Image Processing Handbook and Fovea Pro are supplied to attendees at the Quantitative Image Analysis course. Previous offered through North Carolina State University in Raleigh, Reindeer Graphics is now sponsoring the course. Taught by Dr. John C. Russ for over 20 years, this course has always been well-attended and widely praised. Check our courses page for a list of upcoming course dates.

Practical Stereology, John C. Russ and Robert Dehoff, (2nd Edition, Plenum Press, 2001, ISBN 0-306-46476-4).

An up-to-date text covering both classical and modern stereological techniques for the measurement and characterization of three-dimensional structure by appropriate measurements on two-dimensional images. Includes step-by-step worked examples.

Forensic Uses of Digital Imaging, by John C. Russ (CRC Press, 2001, ISBN 0-8493-0903-4).

Examples of proper (and improper) uses of digital imaging and computer processing methods in forensic applications. Guides for practicing professionals on selecting and defending appropriate techniques; suggestions for counsel whose questions must elicit these explanations or challenge witnesses.

Computer-Assisted Microscopy, by John C. Russ (Plenum Press, 1990, ISBN 0-306-43410-5).

Introductory textbook covering the most commonly used algorithms for computer-based processing and measurement of images acquired from light, electron and other types of microscopes.

Fractal Surfaces, John C. Russ (Plenum Press, 1994, ISBN 0-306-44702-9).

A comprehensive review of the mathematical foundations of fractal theory, examples of applications to materials, organics, and many other natural and man-made phenomena that generate fractal surfaces, and methods by which these surfaces can be measured and characterized, including software for Mac and Windows.
